Stress fractures are incomplete fractures that occur after repetitive stress. There are many factors that lead to stress fractures-improper or worn out shoe gear, increasing activity too quickly or your biomechanics (how your foot functions). If stress fractures go undiagnosed, they can lead to a complete fracture and are at risk for displacement. If the fracture moves it can have difficulties healing or heal in a bad position. Stress fractures are very treatable especially when caught early. Typically, there is less downtime with earlier treatment as well.

How your foot functions can contribute to your symptoms! Different foot types often need support specific to the position of the foot or arch height. Getting a gait exam in our office allows us to give you suggestions for shoe gear, over the counter orthotics or custom orthotics. We can help determine what type of support may be needed.
